BIMIreland.ie showcases some of the keynote speakers at the CitA BIM Gathering 2021.

The Gathering is honoured to have Prof Thomas Bock present his keynote speaker paper ‘Construction innovation by robotics for future Generations’. Its focus is on social and climatic challenges such as affordable housing, energy efficiency, sustainability and an aging society. Prof Bock believes international competitivity can be solved by developing new types of construction processes by introducing robotics. ‘’The construction sector is a basic need for humans as it provides daily shelter. It is also one of the biggest economically – every second euro is invested in infrastructure and the built environment’’ he says.

A world authority in his field, Prof Bock studied at the University of Stuttgart, the IIT in Chicago and the University of Tokyo. He founded the first European commission for building robotics at the CNRS (Centre for National Research Science) in France. Prof Bock co-founded Construction Robotics in Japan and has developed / co-developed 58 construction robotic systems for prefabrication, onsite construction, renovation, deconstruction and infrastructure in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. He is also a co-founder of the IAARC (International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction) and the Asian Habitat Society and serves as advisor to academies and Governments throughout the world. After 35 years of pioneering research in building robotics Prof Bock was awarded the Seibold Prize in 2017. He is the author and co-author of hundreds of articles in a number of languages and has been awarded several honorary professorships. Since 2015 he has been co-author and co-editor of the world’s first book series on construction robotics at Cambridge University Press.
