Ballyroan Library wins Best Public Building at the 2013 RIAI Awards

The RIAI today announced that Ballyroan Library, designed by Box Architecture and built by MDY Construction, is Ireland’s best public building in the 2013 Irish Architecture Awards. In total fourteen awards were presented at a ceremony held in Dublin.

 

Michelle Fagan, President of the RIAI, commented, “These awards highlight the quality architecture that Ireland possesses, that is constantly commended internationally. Good architecture has a positive impact on a countries reputation. The buildings in the awards illustrate that quality delivers the best value for money and we need to ensure that our architecture reflects us, and our aspirations. The RIAI are honoured to showcase the very best of Irish architecture and will continue to drive awareness of this excellence both at home and abroad.”

Ms Fagan added, “Architects always start with the end in mind and this longer term vision needs to be applied to the Irish landscape going forward, to create a culture where building it once and building it right is followed.”

University City Dublin’s Student Centre, won favourite new building. Designed by Fitzgerald Kavanagh & Partners, was voted for by the public in the Public Choice category, the project also won in the Best Universal Design category

Eddie Conroy, Chairperson of the Judging Panel, said, “We continue to see a very high standard of projects entered in to the awards each year.
