A high-rope adventure course is set to be built in Cabinteely Park, Dublin, after Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council last night voted in favour of the proposed development. Almost 200 submissions had been received by the council, 75 per cent of which opposed the proposal.
The course will include four overlapping tracks through the trees with 41 games in total and two platforms to access the network of games. Tree surgery will be required to allow installation of the facility.
Councillors were told the facility would be open from May to the end of August each year. Pricing per person would be in the region of €18 with an expected 100,000 users a year. Adventure company extreme.ie had been identified as the preferred bidder to operate the course. An additional 65 parking spaces would be added to the existing car park. Cllr Niamh Bhreathnach (Lab) said she supported the development.
“We have young people who would benefit by burning off energy in this fashion. Cllr Marie Baker (FG) said she had reservations about additional traffic in a residential area and asked whether a new car park away from the existing one could be facilitated. Cllr Gerry Horkan (FF) also raised concerns about traffic implications. Despite the reservations, a majority of councillors voted to accept the proposal. In other business, the resignation of Cllr Stephen Fitzpatrick (Lab) was announced. He is to spend time travelling.
