Boolavogue NS is set to benefit from a campaign to remove prefabs from schools. Government Chief Whip Paul Kehoe confirmed yesterday (Monday) morning that St. Cormac’s is one of 46 schools – along with Scoil Mhuire at Coolcotts in Wexford – which was included in the latest allocation of €15 million.
The number of pupils attending the school have been on the rise.
The plan is to remove a long standing prefabricated classroom and replace it with a permanent building. The amount of money required will not be known until after tenders from would-be contractors have been examined.
‘For years I have been battling to replace prefabs in County Wexford schools as they offer better accommodation for students and savings for schools and the Exchequer, as well as providing construction jobs,’ said Minister of State Kehoe in a statement.
Principal Laura Walsh was still waiting yesterday for formal written confirmation of the news.
She confirmed that the prefab has been in place for at least seven years.
The school is due to add a fourth teacher in September when the number of pupils is set to rise from the current enrolment of 78 children to 93 or more. Source:Irish Independent
