More than 1,200 students will benefit in the future from the building of the new Rathmullen school campus according to the Department of Education and Skills.
In announcing the project, Gerald Nash TD said the Drogheda school had been included as part of an additional 28 projects as part of a €100 million investment in the school building programme.
‘I have worked closely with Cllr. Paul Bell and both boards of management to secure the funding for the new building. I met with Minister Quinn several times on this issue and I am delighted that the Minister has responded in such a positive manner.
‘This development represents a major vote of confidence in the schools and will serve as a very welcome boost to the community in the Holy Family Parish and beyond, and indeed to the construction sector,’ he said.
‘I have a long history with the school dating back to my time as Chair of Drogheda Youth Development when we took over responsibility as sponsor of the ground breaking Breakfast Club, which has been such an important initiative for local children and families. The Club will be further facilitated in the new building. I am delighted to have played a part in furthering the progress of both these schools. They are an integral part of our community.’
Minister Fergus O’Dowd said the announcement was a vote of confidence for the community.
‘I have been assured that the replacement of both schools will move quickly to the tender and building process so that students will benefit from these new facilities in the near future. Planning permission has already been approved and I look forward to seeing the finished school.
‘The town of Drogheda will also benefit as both St John and St Paul’s schools regularly make their grounds and buildings available for a range of community activities,’ he added. Source:Irish Independent
