Meath County Council has purchased the former Quinn Insurance building in Navan as its new headquarters, reports RTE News.
The local authority paid €5.15m for the building.
County Manager Brendan McGrath said the council was “extremely fortunate” to have purchased the building as it will meet the needs for the public and the local authority staff.
The Council’s operations are currently spread over nine diffent locations in Navan alone.
The move into the former Quinn Insurance building will allow the local authority centralise its offices, saving over €765,000 a year on rent and maintenance.
The purchase is being funded from the Council’s capital account.
County manager Brendan McGrath told the Meath Chronicle the council wanted to offer a modern and efficient service to the people of Meath and it was hindered in that by being in occupation of council buildings that were not fit for the purpose.
The Quinn building has been vacant for two years and no purchasers were on he horizon.
Mr McGrath said he believed the council was getting good value for money considering that other councils had built new headquarters at far greater cost.
