CitA’s 3rd TECH LIVE conference will be a three-day event (June 15th-17th) focusing on the key challenges in construction and how the construction industry must change by embracing new ways of working. Attendees of this conference will gain insight from home and abroad to become a better, faster, more attractive and greener industry.

The event will be an open invitation for industry, academia, government, and IT vendors to submit presentation proposals on addressing one or more of the top 10 challenges facing the construction industry in 2022.

This exciting conference will take place online on June 15, 16 and in-person on June 17 at the Gibson Hotel, Dublin.

Dr Ahmed Hassan is a PhD graduate of Technological University Dublin, specialising in managing construction projects on both corporate and project levels. He is a Civil Engineer with a Masters degree in Project Management from Leeds Beckett University, UK. His PhD was on the strategic planning process in Irish construction firms, fieldwork ascertained the importance of digital transformation to gain a competitive edge through performance improvement and cost reduction.

Over the past 11 years, Ahmed has worked for several construction companies ranging from consultancy firms, contractors, and firms specialising in producing innovative construction materials. Currently, he is a Postdoctoral fellow in the School of Surveying and Construction Management, Technological University Dublin.

What is the title of your paper?

A-EYE Control Tower: AI-driven visibility platform to improve productivity on construction paper.

What is the focus of your paper presentation?

I will present the early stages of an Irish government-funded project, A-EYE, which seeks to create a construction visualisation platform that enables disruptive and measurable productivity advantages through real-time passive data capture. I aim to outline how data is captured during construction site operations using camera and sensor equipment. The camera and sensor technology deployed will locate people, objects, and events on the site, assisted by a site-wide system of gateways and individual anonymised sensors capturing the users’ location and activity.

Why is this an important topic in digital construction?

This paper investigates the potential utilisation of the A-EYE disruptive technology to mitigate construction firms’ persistent productivity, sustainability, communication, and safety challenges. Driven by AI, the A-EYE construction visualisation platform aims to leverage the execution process through passive data capture and real-time delivery of mission-critical information in accessible forms to facilitate productivity measurement, process monitoring, and team-wide collaboration.

What are you most looking forward to at the CitA Tech Live?

I look forward to communicating and disseminating the project’s state of the art, plan, and research framework developed to guide the industrial research process throughout the 3-years project’s duration.
