BIMIreland.ie showcases some of the keynote speakers at the CitA BIM Gathering 2021.
Elisabeth O’Brien is the Manager of DASBE (Digital Academy for the Sustainable Built Environment). Elisabeth holds a Masters in sustainable energy engineering and is a member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI). Elisabeth managed an architectural practice for 17 years and has extensive experience in sustainable design and project management within the construction sector as well as a wealth of knowledge on renewables, energy auditing, sustainable techniques and technologies.
Elisabeth presents her paper ‘Digital academy for the sustainable built environment (DASBE) – A unified hub for provision of upskilling, capacity building and education across Ireland’.
The focus of the presentation concerned provides a digital hub to promote and unify upskilling, capacity building and education in the building sector on green construction, energy efficiency, circular economy and digital skills.
Further to this, DASBE aims to establish low energy buildings to virtual reality, rapid design, development and deployment, online, blended and face-to-face approaches, digital platform enabling access to micro credentials through to major wards, connecting R&D with education and training and connecting industry demand with local provision.
‘’The construction sector is an extremely fast-changing market and many companies are not ready or equipped to move within this modern construction industry. So how should we address such barriers? Provide easy access to training and education, provide flexible upskilling opportunities and provide clear corporate professional development and progression strategies with a clear direction of where to find suitable and relevant training. DASBE is part of the Irish solution’’ she says.
‘’Companies will have to think strategically about technology and sustainability, what they want to see from this and what processes should be prioritised, and then look at what skills are needed’’ she adds.
Elisabeth is of the opinion that there are many great training and education programmes available.
However, they are fragmented across the market so the industry and education / training providers need to work closely to maximise and access upskilling.
