CitA is delighted to announce that the premier series of breakfast meetings in 2019 will focus on Digital Transformation.
Speaking to BIMIreland.ie, CitA Co-founder Dr. Alan Hore confirmed: “CitA are delighted to be working once more with our CIC partners. Throughout 2019 we will be looking at transformational messages from keynotes, policy providers and project teams that will include optimisation of digital and BIM, off-site construction, integrated project delivery, soft landings, transitioning to ISO19650 and lean construction among others.
In 2018 we learnt so much about the innovation and change that is happening in our sector. CitA Tech Live was a significant highlight for CitA last year, which when coupled with our Digital Transition and Tech Trend Series messages there is now a realisation and belief that our industry is at a tipping point in respect to digital usage and what is now needed in 2019 is real leadership to drive the vision as set out in the NBC Roadmap for Digital Transition for Ireland’s Construction Industry 2018-2021. The Irish Government’s commitment to BIM is clear in their plans to roll out their BIM mandate programme that commences with Mandate 5 in Q2 2019.”
The first of the CitA breakfast meetings will take place on Wednesday 30th January 2019 in the Alex Hotel on Fenian Street, Dublin.
The title of the meeting is Delivering Infrastructure Faster, Smarter and Better. Subsequent events will look at the innovative and transformative approaches to the delivery of housing, health, education and national utility projects which are all envisaged under the Ireland 2040 plan.
“CitA has been busy in recent weeks gathering ideas and listening to members about next steps for CitA. We have also been busy forming strategic partnerships with like-minded organisations like the BRE and the NBS which will add value to the service offering to CitA members in 2019. In addition, we have also been influenced recently by the announcement of the funding for the Construction Transformation Alliance (CTA) in the UK. The CTA is an alliance of experts specialising in digital, manufacturing, building performance standards and construction technology has been awarded leadership of a new national hub to drive innovation and technological advances in the UK construction and infrastructure sectors. This would appear to be a good fit for Ireland’s plan to develop a Centre of Excellence for Irish construction outlined in the NBC Roadmap and we can learn so much from the UK innovative stance in respect to digitising the construction sector to reap productivity benefits despite the uncertainties that Brexit brings.”
Dr. Hore commented: “In respect to our January event, we have secured the agreement of Paolo Carbone, Head of Public Transport Capital Projects and Public Transport Capital Programme in Transport Infrastructure Ireland to speak and also Stephen Lynam in the OGP about the imminent BIM Mandate 5 that will come into operation in mid-2019.
A case study on The Bergen Project will be presented by Mott McDonald. The meeting will be Chaired by the Director General of the Engineers Ireland Caroline Spillane. Details of the event can be located here.
We really do hope that all the representative bodies get behind this series and promote it among its members as there are some really important messages.
Further details will also be announced shortly in regard to other CitA activities in 2019 including the return of the CitA BIM Gathering which will take place in Galway in September 2019.
