Supermac’s MD Pat McDonagh has purchased the Charleville Park Hotel, Co. Cork, saving in excess of 100 jobs in the process, with the possibility of creating further employment in the area.

The announcement marks the latest in a series of hotel acquisitions for Mr McDonagh and he has said he will embark on a “significant investment programme” upgrading the hotel’s facilities to offer modern, quality standards to customers on a par with the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick and the Lough Rea Hotel & Spa, which he and wife Una have also recently acquired.

With a plan to invest in excess of €1 million to upgrade the infrastructure and design of the hotel the hotel’s future has been safeguarded by the announcement.

“It’s a pleasure to provide hotel facilities to Charleville and its surrounding areas, most especially as the hotel plays a vital role as an income provider in the area through its levels of employment, with visitors bringing business to the locality through secondary spending and the hosting of social events and celebrations. Buying from local suppliers and promoting them to guests within the hotel is naturally a priority for us, as it is throughout all of our business interests” said McDonagh.

He added that, having seen success through the growth of the Castletroy Park Hotel during the last two years and more recently the Lough Rea Hotel & Spa, he and his wife hope to see a similar level of progress in the development of the Charleville Park Hotel.
