The CitA Eastern BIM Region Meeting which took place on June 28th was very well supported and received.
The presentation topic was “BIM Level 2: Project set up and the impacts of missing information for the client and delivery team. “ BIMIreland.ie spoke to Michael Murphy about the event.
Michael Murphy is the Chairperson of the CitA Eastern BIM Region and BIM Operations Manager at BAM. Describing the event, Michael said, “Jo Wallwork, Senior Project Manager and BIM Lead for Turner & Townsend Ireland, presented on the impacts of missing information for the client and delivery team. Jo provided an overview of the current project roles and documentation and how they should work together as well as providing a current overview of the Irish Industry, which was well delivered. Jo was also joined by Dave Monswhite of Turner & Townsend UK, who assisted in the Q&A session which was great as it allowed those present to hear at first hand from somebody who has extensive experience in both the preparation and delivery of Level 2 project within the UK.”
CitA event Q&A sessions offer attendees an opportunity to question BIM experts. Michael told us, “The presentation generated a number of questions around at what stage in a project’s lifespan would it make sense to introduce BIM and at what cost, who should be producing what information and how currently certain sectors of the Irish Construction Industry are struggling to meet the requirements as set-out in PAS1192-2:2013. “
“It was interesting to note that Turner & Townsend felt the introduction of BIM onto a live project at RIBA Stages 3 and 4 has the potential to be highly disruptive and that BIM engagement at any other stage should be a far easier endeavour if correctly managed.”
The CitA Regions events are great for networking. Michael said, “The event was interactive with some interesting debates on the matter at hand and was good to see some interaction from the attendees. It is clear that it is an environment where people can gain access to industry experts in a social environment and build relationships and contacts which will hopefully benefit all in the future.”
Michael told us about the next planned event: “The CitA Eastern BIM Region will plan to meet again around September 2016 and are planning to host the next event in DIT Bolton Street. In keeping with the theme to date the next event will be focusing on the Level 2 suite of documents and their requirements on a practical level.”
