One of Ireland’s fastest growing high voltage (HV) electrical design and build companies Powerteam, which specialises in the construction and maintenance of electrical substations and overhead lines, has provided employment for eight graduate Lineworkers who underwent training at ESB Networks, the company responsible for Ireland’s electricity network
The eight from Dublin, Kildare, Clare, Roscommon and Donegal were hand-picked by Powerteam, a wholly owned subsidiary of ESB, from a pool of successful ESB Networks graduates to further increase Powerteam’s workforce that is providing overhead line services to Scottish Power, one of the company’s key clients in Scotland.
Managing Director Alastair Dawson said: “Due to the increasing volume of work that we are experiencing, particularly in Scotland and the North of England, through clients such as Scottish Power, we are always on the lookout for highly trained Lineworkers.
“Overhead line construction and maintenance represents a significant and very labour intensive part of our business so we were happy that we were in a position to put the newly qualified apprentices considerable training to good use,” added Mr Dawson.
Powerteam’s HR Manager Clare Doran said: “The skills needed to work in this industry are extremely specialised and the training provided by ESB Networks – which takes place over four years – is first class. This, coupled with Powerteam’s continued growth year on year, was a key factor in our decision to offer each of the graduate apprentices a job. Powerteam is an electricity infrastructure design and build company which designs, supplies, installs, commissions and project manages the construction and refurbishment of substations and overhead lines to distribution network operators, windfarm developers and private network owners in the UK and Ireland. A wholly owned subsidiary of ESB, Powerteam, whose headquarters are in Belfast and has offices in Perth, Basingstoke and Manchester, employs 190 staff directly and regularly engages more than 100 agency or subcontracted workers to service its growing portfolio of clients.
